Krannert Park Indianapolis

Located on the south side of Indianapolis, Krannert Park is part of the Indy Parks system. Unlike many other Indianapolis parks, Krannert Park is a destination for those looking for a great swimming pool, a family center, and swimming lessons. It also boasts a lighted, 6-lane indoor pool. Krannert Park is a wonderful place for the entire family to spend some time together, and it’s also ideal for a day at the beach or in the water.

When you are looking for a place to play with the kids, Krannert Park in Indianapolis, Indiana, may be the right choice for you. This former YMCA property was acquired by Indy Parks in the 1970s. The park has a small playground with mulch surrounding it, but there is also a wildlife pond nearby that was a hit with Lulu. The wildlife pond includes a dock out into the water. I spotted a few families fishing from the docks, which Lulu loved.

The city has eight pools at Krannert Park, and another two are in Gustavson Park. The Krannert Park pool will be closed for remodeling, but there are still plenty of other options for those who want to cool off in the summer. The good news for those who live in Marion County: all the pools will be free to enter. The rules are the same as usual – free admission for Marion County residents is available from Wednesday through Sunday. However, admission to these pools will be limited until 3 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays.

It has a family center

If you’re looking for an indoor playground, there’s one in Krannert Park. Formerly known as the Krannert YMCA, this facility was acquired by the city of Indianapolis in 1972. Located on 605 South High School Rd., this center offers a wide range of programs for kids of all ages, including swim lessons, dance classes, karate, and aerobics. Visitors can also enjoy the park’s serene nature retreat.

One winter event that the park hosts is its annual Santa meet and greet. It’s free to attend, and there’s hot cocoa and a commemorative photo. Another family event that the park holds is an annual reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.’ Visit their Facebook page for details. In addition to the Santa-filled events, Krannert Park has 212 parks and 153 miles of trails, and a family center that offers a wide range of programs.

While Krannert Park used to be a YMCA until the 1970s, it has become a popular recreation center, featuring a small playground surrounded by mulch.
